What I Will Fight For

PROVIDING MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GEORGIA STUDENTS
GEORGIA DISTRICT 24

IMPROVING EDUCATION

This year, House Republicans strengthened investments in our children’s education, fully funding public schools, providing teacher pay raises, expanding school choice, and enhancing school security. As Vice-Chair of the Higher Education Dual Enrollment Committee, I will continue to work to improve this program and provide more opportunities for Georgia students. I believe parents know what is best for their children, and I realize that a one-size-fits-all model does not work. Therefore, I will prioritize school choice.

RETURNED $1.1b TO GEORGIA TAXPAYERS

REDUCING OUR TAX BURDENS

This year, the Georgia House returned $1.1 billion to Georgia taxpayers by accelerating the income tax cut from 5.75% to 5.39% and ultimately below 5%. I am proud to have sponsored  HB 717, the Homestead Tax exemption for Forsyth School District’s ad valorem taxes. Look for this referendum on the ballot in November of 2024. I also sponsored a resolution, HR 889, ensuring the delegation’s commitment to preserving the total senior homestead exemption. The legislature also doubled the homestead exemption from $2,000 to $4,000 and increased the child tax deduction by $1,000.

AUTHORED Central Bank Digital Currency HB 1053

PROTECTING YOUR PRIVACY

I am proud to have authored and had HB 1053 signed into law. This bill will protect Georgians from the federal government’s overreaching aim to move to a digital currency. This bill will prohibit Georgia’s governmental agencies from accepting payments in a central bank digital currency or from participating in any pilot program.  A central bank digital currency (CBDC) is a cryptocurrency run by the government that replaces the dollars in your bank account and wallet. The Federal Reserve will manage a CBDC, meaning it will become your bank. If the federal government adopts a central bank digital currency, it poses significant privacy and security risks for individuals and businesses in Georgia. A CBDC would give the federal government control over our lives, freedoms, and choices, which is an unacceptable expansion of federal authority. Moreover, it would disrupt the existing financial system and diminish the role of community banks and credit unions. This bill will protect against all of these risks.

HELPED PASS THE SENIOR PROTECTIONS FROM EXPLOITATION AGAINST RETIREES ACT

PROTECTING OUR SENIORS

I collaborated with the Georgia Council on Aging to help pass the Senior Protections from Exploitation Against Retirees Act (SB 84). This act aims to safeguard elderly citizens in Georgia from financial exploitation by providing protective measures. As a result of my contribution to this initiative, I was awarded the “Legislator of the Year” by the Georgia Council on Aging. HB 1123, which will create an Elder Justice Coalition for Georgia. This coalition will work towards preventing any abuse, neglect, or exploitation of disabled adults and older persons. This is legislation that I am proud to have sponsored, and I will see this vital bill through to final passage in 2025.

ELECTION INTEGRITY BILLS HB 974, HB 1207 & SB 189.

SECURING OUR ELECTIONS

This year was a massive year for election integrity bills. HB 974 and 1207, plus SB 189, all tackle issues such as requiring the posting of paper ballots, requiring watermarks on paper ballots, and expanding risk-limiting audits. Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McKoon said, “I would describe this year’s session as a home run for those of us concerned about election integrity.”

PROTECTING OUR CITIZENS

PUBLIC SAFETY

House Republicans passed significant pieces of legislation to protect our citizens. HB 19 provided pay raises for law enforcement officers and security grants to make schools safer, giving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation more resources. SB 63, Bail Reform, provides an expanded list of offenses that require bail and ensures that illegal immigrants who commit crimes are not bonded out. HB 1105, Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act prohibits sanctuary cities and requires law enforcement to determine the immigration status of detainees and honor any DHS immigration detainer requests.
